CLASSES & ENSEMBLES

Group Classes

From beginning instrument study to classroom subjects, group classes cover most popular instruments and topics, including through college-level curriculum.

Group classes are small and student-focused and each standard group class contains 10 hour-long weekly classes over a 3-calendar-month quarter. Beginning instrument group classes are also an excellent affordable way to begin instrument study at 40% cost savings for double the class time!

Classes require a certain minimum enrollment in order to begin on schedule, so please encourage family or friends to register with you for the best experience!

Ensembles are performance groups with weekly rehearsals including choirs, bands, orchestras, and more. Students learn in collaborative environments and work toward private performances at our school and public performances in our community. These are an excellent supplement to private lesson study, are open to most students with some experience, and provide valuable skill building normally not possible with just studying solo music!

This is a low-pressure friendly environment and students may choose to attend just to observe and learn—performing is NOT required. However, everyone is encouraged to bring their instrument in case they want to jump in! Piano/keyboards, drums, microphones, and guitar amps are provided.

Performing students should be familiar with the following concepts: major keys up through 4 sharps (C, G, D, A, E) and 2 flats (F, Bb) in concert pitch, basic knowledge of the I/IV/V chords, optional knowledge of dominant 7th chords, and optional knowledge of pentatonic scales and blue scales.

This is an ongoing series of individual dates and includes varied topics and song material, based on group experience, interests, and aptitude. New students are encouraged to participate, even without attending prior dates. Interested students should contact their FWSoM instructor to register for the next workshop date!
